52 Weeks to Successful Freelance: Wk. 2

Clients, oh clients, where art thou clients?? This has been my dilemma for the pasttwo weeks or so. I was so excited when I first made the move to begin freelancing. I actually had my first two clients within the week! Well, only one was a paying client, but still! How awesome right? And then I presented the finished projects to both clients and was left staring at the walls. What am I to do? I have been scouring the employment listings for projects, have applied to many and still… Cricket, cricket. I have some leads but nothing materializing yet and my bank account is not happy right now.

This is where my natural personality DOES NOT come in handy. I’m not one for cold calling… At all. Posted a small business page on Facebook… check. Created a website… check (well, you are reading it now… Duh…). Created a yellow pages listing… check. What else can I do that doesn’t involve having people hang up in my face or worse curse me out? I’m going to brainstorm. I have a couple of ideas that I haven’t tried yet. GraphicDesignBlender offers a few suggested ideas. I’ll start with those and come up with more, try them, and let you know what worked. In the meantime, what suggestions to you have?

I found Joomla to be a little more difficult to navigate. It can be done but it takes time. I prefer WordPress or even Concrete5. Much luck to you! You’re sight looks pretty interesting Forma very targeted audience. Nice! Start with a few images to accompany your posts… Good luck to you!

I have been a freelancer and wretir for 15 years and I have never had a website and I have been able to get work.I don’t think having a website automatically equals work unless you are writing out of state and nationally. Since I work largely locally, I like to meet with editors if possible and show them my work. However, Iam considering putting up my resume and clips at some site since work has slowed to a crawl this year for me, the biggest drought of my career thus far.

Why do you think there has been such a lack of work available for you this particular year?
